BEHIND SHOTBYDN
I’m DJ Nathan, the photographer behind SHOTBYDN, based on Long Island, New York.
Over the past decade, photography has evolved from documenting the things around me into a more deliberate approach centered on people, machines and atmosphere. My work now focuses primarily on portraiture, editorial imagery and automotive photography.
I’m drawn to intentional light, strong environments and images that feel cinematic without becoming overly produced. Whether photographing a person or a machine, the goal is to create work that feels considered, visually distinct and grounded in the character of the subject.
THE APPROACH

I’m interested in the space between polished and natural — imagery that feels deliberate without losing personality. Natural light, flash, artificial lighting, movement and environmental elements are all tools used according to what the photograph needs rather than a fixed formula.
